Sedation Dentistry Explained – Complimentary Offer This Summer
Getting ready for your sedation appointment? Whether it’s your first time or you’re just looking for reassurance, understanding what to expect before, during, and after sedation dentistry can make a big difference in how you feel.
From now through September 30th, Shoreline Dental Studio is offering complimentary Oral Conscious Sedation for qualifying patients as part of our Sedation Summer special – because comfort should never be optional.
Before Your Appointment
Fasting Guidelines
For most oral sedation procedures, you’ll be asked to avoid food and drinking (including water) for 6–8 hours before your visit, depending on the type of dental sedation used. Always follow the specific instructions from your care team.
Health & Medication Disclosure
Always share a full list of your current medications, supplements, and medical conditions. Let your care team know about any allergies, pregnancy, or other health factors.
Clothing & Accessories
Dress in loose, comfortable clothes. Skip makeup, perfume, jewelry, and contact lenses to keep monitoring easy and reduce risks.
Transportation & Support
You cannot drive yourself after your appointment. Arrange for a trusted adult to drive home and stay with you for several hours post-treatment.
Plan Your Day
Take the full day off work or school. Prepare your home ahead of time – soft meals, hydration, and a calm space will support a smoother recovery.
What to Expect During Sedation
We offer nitrous oxide and Oral Conscious Sedation directly through our studio, with the option to arrange IV sedation through a licensed anesthesiologist. Only Oral Conscious Sedation is included in the summer special.
How long does sedation last
With oral sedation, effects can last between 2–8 hours, depending on dosage and your personal metabolism. Residual drowsiness is common later in the day.
What It Feels Like
Most people feel calm, drowsy, and detached from the procedure. With dental sedation, you’re usually awake but deeply relaxed. Nitrous oxide wears off quickly and often feels floaty or light.
Monitoring & Support
Shoreline’s team continuously monitors your breathing, heart rate, and comfort throughout the visit to ensure your safety and peace of mind.
After Your Visit
How long after sedation can you drive
You should not drive, operate machinery, or make major decisions for at least 24 hours after sedation dentistry. Err on the side of caution – your brain may still be processing the effects.
What to Expect at Home
You may experience mild side effects like fatigue, dry mouth, or slight nausea. Follow all post-procedure instructions closely, and avoid alcohol, stimulants, or strenuous activity for the rest of the day.
