Invisalign:  What You Need to Know

By February 15, 2017February 9th, 20242 Comments

While we all desire a beautiful smile, many people still don’t seek help for overcrowding, gaps, or crooked teeth. Why? They are apprehensive about traditional braces. However, Invisalign are far from the braces your parents wore.

Invisalign is the modern solution to straightening your teeth with no unsightly or uncomfortable wires. Instead, they are made with durable, smooth, clear plastic that is custom molded to perfectly fit your teeth and make the necessary corrections to them. As your teeth respond to treatment, a new set of aligners are sent to you every two weeks until all of your teeth are in their correct position.

Getting Started

Your first step is to make sure that Invisalign treatment is right for you. With the exception of severe re-spacing or straightening issues, Invisalign is the perfect alternative to traditional metal braces. Invisalign comes with 3D Imaging Technology software, so you can actually preview how your smile will adjust during the course of treatment. Once you decide that Invisalign is the right treatment for you, fixtures will be attached to your teeth for the Invisalign aligner to clip on to.

How to Wear Them

You simply wear your aligner for 22 hours a day, removing them to eat or brush your teeth. They are safe to sleep in, and you can eat or drink whatever you normally do without restrictions. You may want to limit coffee and tobacco consumption, however, because over time they will turn your aligners yellow.

Invisalign Advantages

While the goal of all teeth aligners is to provide you with a better smile, Invisalign offers several key advantages over traditional braces:

  • Invisible – No one will see a mouthful of metal when you smile.
  • Comfortable – Since there is no metal, you won’t experience any abrasions.
  • Removable – You can remove it to eat and for dental care.

Is Invisalign just for Adults?

There is no age barrier to being fitted for Invisalign treatment as long as your teeth are fully grown. Traditional braces are an uncomfortable distraction that can create a psychological barrier that can affect your confidence, especially if you are a teenager.

If you are interested in correcting misaligned or crooked teeth, but do not want to go through the hassle of traditional braces, schedule an appointment to see if Invisalign may be the solution for you.
