When should my child have his/her first dental exam?
It is necessary to instill the importance of dental care early on. Right after a child’s first tooth erupts is the best time to bring her in for her first checkup, but no later than his or her first birthday. You will get the tools you need in order to ensure your child develops healthy habits.
How often should I come in for a cleaning?
Each patient has risk factors and oral hygiene that make them unique. Some patients will return for prophylactic cleanings every six months, while others may have more active or advanced gum disease that will require them to visit more frequently to assess any disease present in the mouth. Our specially trained dental hygienists conduct a very thorough examination upon each patient’s initial visit to determine what the best course of action is.
What are dental sealants?
Dental sealants are a protective layer of plastic resin that is placed over porous teeth in order to prevent cavities. The resin is applied directly to the surface of the tooth to fill in fissures and depressions; this is usually placed in the harder-to-clean molars and premolars. The protective coating keeps food and plaque from getting stuck in the fissures and causing cavities.
How can parents prevent early tooth decay in children?
It’s important to instill good oral hygiene habits early on. Bring your child to Shoreline Dental Studios after his first tooth erupts, and we will provide a suggested regimen of brushing, flossing, and dental checkups.
